Anticipation is Making Me Wait...5/21/2024 As I write this blog, I'm waiting for The Principal Chronicles Two/Too/II/As Well to be delivered to my house.
Five hundred and one paperback copies. And as I wait, I can't help but remember the time, not too long ago, I sat waiting for my first book to be delivered to my house. I was super excited. Jazzed. I'd been notified by the carrier to expect the truck by noon. The weather was clear and cold, but no snow was anticipated until the next day. The truck was delayed, but not by much, and when it pulled up in front of our house - this large truck - Linda remembers it as an 18 wheeler, I think it was a bit smaller, but still - a large truck - I raced out the front door to greet the driver. Linda videotaped me from the front porch. I did a 'Happy Dance' in the driveway as the truck driver walked up to me and handed me the bill of lading. Five hundred and ten books! I continued my dance as the driver opened the back of the truck to reveal... nothing. Well, not nothing. There was a large tub of what I've come to describe as 'green goo.' It may have been dish detergent. It may have been some sort of industrial disinfectant. It was certainly not five hundred and ten paperback books. There was nothing else in the truck. "That's not yours?" The driver asked me when he saw the disappointment on my face. "Books! It's supposed to be books!" "Oh... There must be some mistake then. Let me call the depot." After a few minutes, and the exchange of a bunch of registration numbers, it was determined that my books had not been loaded onto that truck, but another one, and that probably they'd be delivered the next day. They were delivered the next day. One hour before the arrival of a snowstorm. We got the last of the boxes moved into our living room just as it began to snow. So while I'm excited and jazzed at the prospect of my books being delivered today, I'm not quite as excited and jazzed as I was the first time. Here's hoping today's event is not blogworthy.
